“We have been registered with the Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology for the last 16 years after our mum saw an advert in the local newspaper!
We have participated in numerous studies and featured on the BBC programme ‘The Secret Life of Twins’
It’s a great feeling to know that we are contributing to important health research that will improve knowledge of complex diseases and how to treat them, as well as getting a full health MOT!”

‘‘Myself and Amanda, my non-identical twin, have been part of TwinsUK for the last 27 years. We have had a great experience coming in for visits and love being part of all the studies as we gain a fascinating insight into our bodies as we age. My twin is very competitive and loves doing better than me, even if it’s a superior poo sample.”

“My twin and I participated in the PREDICT food study. We really enjoyed our trip to London to visit St Thomas’ Hospital. We had a great time together in London but also learnt a lot from the research. The study was explained well on the day, and all the staff and researchers were friendly and made us both feel at ease throughout the day. After the study day, the information gained from the research—for both me and my sister—was very useful.”

“My name is Karan and my sister Liz, have been part of the twin research for many years and have enjoyed our visits. Everyone makes you feel so welcomed and it’s such a privilege to be part of something that can make a difference in the future. We have attended the department many times and taken part in various projects including the food one, which was extremely interesting to be a too.
We always look forward to the emails, newsletters and projects and hope we may continue to do our part.”

“As non-identical twin sisters, we have been committed to twin research since we first participated in a study at Aston University, aged about 8. However, at 67 years of age—and after a lifetime of telling people we were completely unalike, personality-wise—it took a two-hour, in-depth conversation in my garden during lockdown to discover, to our mutual astonishment, just how many personality traits we actually have in common! There is always something surprising about being a twin!”

“My twin sister is in the cream jacket on the right & myself on the left. We all had great fun at the twin party years ago confusing the public. Precious days!”
