Access Requests

Accessing TwinsUK data/ samples

We welcome requests from all researchers to access TwinsUK data and samples, whatever your research area, institution, location or funding source. If you would like to collaborate with the Department of Twin Research and access TwinsUK data and/or samples, please follow the next steps:

  • Read the DTR Policy Document for data access for necessary background information.
  • Complete a “Data Access Proposal Form” for consideration by the TwinsUK Research Executive Committee.
  • Specify the data and/or samples required clearly, listing individual variables with appropriate justification describing the aims/hypothesis of your project.
  • Include all phenotypes and potential confounders that you will require for your research and analysis. Subsequent requests for additional data will require a new Data Access Application.

Before submission, please note that:

  • Governance does not allow extensive, untargeted AI data requests. We cannot support these applications.
  • Projects should be related to health, well-being, or disease. Applications outside this remit may not be supported.
  • No attempt should be made to link or combine the data provided with other datasets, even if granted or freely available.
  • Data can only be used for the specific project for which it was requested. For other projects, permission from the TwinsUK Research Access Committee is required.
  • All data requests will incur a cost. Click here for more information.
